Sound School Project

Sound School 4In association with the Dublin Dockland Development Authority, Dublin City fm have been broadcasting ‘ Sound School’ over the last 3 years on our airwaves.
The initiative, the brainchild of D.D.D.A.’s social & regeneration director Gerry Kelly, allows the pupils of Dockland’s secondary schools the opportunity of producing and presenting their own radio programme. Initially there were six schools involved in the project. Marino College, Marian College, Ringsend T.I., Larkin College, Westland Row and St.Mary’s , Haddington Road. However due to the closure of St. Mary’s and Westland Row unable to participate, there will be only four schools broadcasting in the new year.Sound School 2

The programme is of 30 minutes duration. The topics are the choice of each school and range from school activities to local issues. Some of the interviews are conducted in the schools with the post production taking place in the station studios. It also incorporates the pupils choice of music.

Sound School 3Last year the schools also performed a one hour ‘live’ broadcast with four special guests invited in to the studios to be interviewed. The guests included Dublin football manager, Paul Caffrey, Supt. Ray Barry, Store St. Garda, Cyprian Brady T.D.and athlete Annette Keeley, world senior 5,000m champion. The programme was a great success and gave the pupils a great insight into radio broadcasting.Sound School will be returning in the new year so tune in at 1pm on Wednesdays.Sound School 1 575
